Ad | Zindiya in Moseley launches a new menu

Posted on September 28, 2020September 28, 2020 by Laura

Exciting news: Zindiya in Moseley has some new menu items for you to try. I visited this pretty spot last week on a busy Friday night after owner Shivani offered to give me (and therefore you) a sneak peek at the new menu that’s coming at the start of October. While most of the favourites…

Photos | Highlights from Independent Birmingham Festival at Aston Hall

Posted on July 21, 2019July 22, 2019 by Laura

This weekend saw the highly anticipated return of Independent Birmingham’s Festival at Aston Hall. It also saw my husband and I eat like gout isn’t a real possibility in the near future. The setting – a beautiful seventeenth century Jacobean mansion – looked just as gorgeous as last year, playing host to nearly 30 food…

When Colmore Food Festival returns in July visitors are in for a treat, if the menu sneak peek is to be believed. As I told you in April, this popular free festival is due to return to Victoria Square 5-6th July, with over 30 Colmore based traders offering dishes and drinks. And we now know…

Highlights from Independent Birmingham Festival | The Bond

Posted on May 24, 2019May 25, 2019 by Laura

Last weekend saw the Independent Birmingham Festival take over The Bond in Digbeth for two days. With tickets to the Saturday session, a group of us headed to the event to eat and drink courtesy of some of Brum’s best independent businesses – and celebrate the birthday of my pal, George. Tickets cost £10 and…

10 places to eat alone in Birmingham (without feeling like a loner)

Posted on May 14, 2019August 28, 2019 by Laura

A few weeks ago I mentioned on Twitter that I’d spent an afternoon eating and drinking around the city centre on my own. Yes, shock/horror people do that now. I happen to do it quite a bit, and in some ways I prefer it. Quite a few people asked me for recommendations for where to…

Photos | Cheese Fest 2019, The Bond, Digbeth

Posted on April 9, 2019July 16, 2019 by Laura

Today’s (very short) post is all about Cheese Fest, which took place at The Bond in Digbeth last weekend. I waffled on about this event back in Feb, and as promised there was plenty of street food vendors offering cheesy specials, plus stalls inside the main hall and live music. The food line up included…

Photos: Burger Fest | The Bond, Digbeth

Posted on October 8, 2018January 28, 2019 by Laura

If there’s anything guaranteed to get me out of bed on a Saturday it’s the promise of dripping, cheesy, filthy burgers. Lots of them. Thankfully all my dreams came true this weekend when some of the best local (and national, quite frankly) patty slingers came together for Burger Fest in Digbeth. Our church for the…

Independent Birmingham Festival @ Aston Hall

Posted on July 25, 2018July 30, 2018 by Laura

I can’t remember how many food/drink festivals I’ve been to in the last month, but I can tell you my jeans don’t fit anymore. Last but by no means least for July’s overindulgence was Independent Birmingham Festival, at the charming Aston Hall. As you can see from the photos, this place is just awful. Not…

Small plates and sharers @ The Bull’s Head, Bishopsgate Street

Posted on May 22, 2018June 6, 2018 by Laura

I only meant to pop in for a quick pre-cinema pint, the first time I visited The Bull’s Head. Things didn’t really go to plan and I left 4 hours later full of posh gin and 30 (or so) quid lighter. Story of my life, that. Since that soaking wet winter night, The Husband and…

You know your fella knows you well when, instead of flowers, he surprises you with tickets to the Independent Birmingham Festival for a day of eating. Set up within The Bond in Digbeth, the Independent Birmingham Festival celebrated all that is brilliant when it comes to Brum’s indi scene. I bang on relentlessly about my…

Indian street food @ Rola Wala, Selfridges

Posted on March 13, 2018March 20, 2018 by Laura

Rola Wala has replaced Izza Pizza in the Selfridges food court, and I’ve been down to try its Indian street food offerings. To be honest, I rolled my eyes a bit when I heard yet another Indian street food venue was opening. It’s not that I don’t like them (I would happily eat dosa on…

A weekend of street food highlights

Posted on February 25, 2018February 25, 2018 by Laura

I spent most of last weekend eating street food and drinking beer. It was, as you’d imagine, rather glorious. The two day binge eating fest started out innocently enough; grab a burger before a trip to the cinema. Lovely. Of course, being that I can’t be trusted and Ian’s easily led, this quickly escalated into…

How lovely, on International Women’s Day no less, to see some dismissing a fellow woman’s admission of suicidal thoughts as nonsense. It doesn’t matter if you care or ‘believe her’ - it matters how you engage in these conversations. Because your friends, family and peers see you.

It’s odd how this interview was framed in print and online this morning as them shitting on the queen, when in actual fact they both do nothing but praise her. Charles on the other hand... #OprahMeghanHarry

What she said 👍🏼

Felicity Cross@fliccross

I’m all for opinions. But in v v simple terms -I don’t listen to a white person on racism, a man on women’s issues, or a non-suicidal person about feeling suicidal. How about we listen to experts in those fields, instead of soapboxers who pontificate on issues outside their lane?

Well deserved! And love this from Nat’s local paper. Supporting and championing local people and businesses is what a local paper should be doing 👏🏼

Wow it’s already a total bin fire here, isn’t it. Taking the rest of today off this site because everyone’s apparently gone mental, and all this flag waving shit and wishing death on a pregnant woman (on IWD too, how nice) isn’t for me.
