Argentinian restaurant Fiesta Del Asado has expanded, with a new venue in Solihull now open.
The independent restaurant originally started life in Edgbaston, gaining a reputation for quality ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere. I’ve eaten at the original location several times and always found it a positive experience, so I was interested to see if Fiesta Del Asado 2.0 was any good.
Colourful and smart, the restaurant is undoubtedly a modern upgrade on it’s sibling site. A horseshoe shaped bar is the focus and ideal for pre-dinner drinks; the dining space is a mixture of comfortable booths in a raised area and tables and chairs on the main floor.
The menu reads pretty much identically to one available on Hagley Road, with steak and beef featuring first and foremost. Having enjoyed the flat iron steak previously, the Bife de Lomo (£27.99) was my go to this time. The 11oz fillet is cooked on the bone making it more flavourful than your average fillet steak, served a perfect medium as requested. Quality beef, well cooked, nice and juicy – happy days.
For those that like a more intense flavour there’s a chuck eye that’s worth your attention. Fish and chicken dishes are also available, and a limited vegetarian selection. Sides for all dishes are ordered separately – chips are obviously available but I rate the Spinach Crema (£3.29) because I basically like garlic and cream on everything. Speaking of garlic, the Tiger Prawns (£8.79) tossed in olive oil, chilli and the good stuff make a tasty starter or side to share. I didn’t share mine though – shocker.
There’s a simple cocktail menu that covers all the usual bases and a nice size wine selection; a glass of the delightful Santa Alegra Merlot from Chile (£5.50) came recommended by staff and was smooth and light.
Through the glass doors the restaurant is a very pretty space, and the quality of the service and food available seems in keeping with my prior experiences at its sister site. Having lived on the Shirley side of Birmingham for a few years, and knowing how little it had going for in terms of food five years ago, I imagine the locals – in particular those on the Solihull side of Stratford Road – will appreciate this more upmarket steak experience.
