I found Home Is Where by accident when I was recently visiting Hotel Du Vin.
After my massage last week I clocked Home Is Where cafe in all its white vintagy glory as I left, and decided to diary a visit to the cute looking eatery. I managed to find an hour spare recently so popped in for a spot of breakfast.
I was greeted by a lovely smiling chap and ordered my food. French toast with fresh berries (£3.50) caught my eye on the breakfast menu, so I sacked my diet off for yet another day (lol at self) and ordered that along with a cappuccino (£2.40). I also asked for some honey on my toast rather than syrup.
The food arrived within ten minutes and looked just gorgeous. Two pieces of thick French toast greeted me, with a light dusting of powdered sugar for good measure, and an ample portion of fresh fruit. Summer berries including strawberries, blueberries and raspberries tumbled from the carby stack with a drizzle of honey added as a final flourish.
A combination of sweet and tangy I was delighted by my choice, and a cracking little breakfast treat for less than six quid – you can’t argue with that!
Similarly the coffee was just as I’d hoped and helped wash down the sugar fest I’d just eaten. I also really like the black cups and saucers – made me feel right at home with my staple black nail varnish.
The cafe itself is covered in funky artwork and mismatched furniture; visually interesting. I also liked the mixture of small tables for two and large wooden tables for groups, making it a more social atmosphere than some of the surrounding cafes.
It has a very cool vibe, and was full of people laughing and groups of friends socialising together.
Of course there was the usual laptop vampires (not judging, I am one too) with their heads down in their Macs, but it was nice to see so many young people enjoying themselves in the cafe.
Mind you, with the amount of sugary treats on offer I was pretty enthused by life by the time I left too..
As well as breakfast Home Is Where has a small but perfectly formed lunch menu offering well priced eats and plenty of variety. Specials boards offer something new each day, so I’m told, and there’s options for veggies as well. I’ll be back to try some of the savoury offerings soon.
