There seems to be a day for everything now, but there’s one I’m more than happy to get onboard with: World Gin Day.
In Birmingham we are lucky to have some truly gorgeous places to sip that juniper goodness. Here’s a quick read with 7 spots to inspire you gin lovers out there to celebrate this Saturday.
40 St Paul’s
It was recently voted Best Gin Bar in the World, so understandably this Jewellery Quarter hotspot should be top of your list. It might be a small bar but the gin list is massive and includes both traditional g&ts plus cocktails. Make sure you book ahead of the weekend.
This beautiful boutique hotel in Edgbaston houses, in my opinion, one of the best bars in Birmingham. The gin cocktails are knock out and the bar team know their stuff. Book ahead on weekends and don’t forget the gorgeous sun terrace out the back.
Set by Brindleyplace, this pub has a pretty good gin menu, but more importantly it makes its own spirit in house. You can buy a bottle of Roundhouse from the bar for about £35 and it’s surprisingly good.
Hidden away on Thorp Street, this secret bar specialises in pre-made cocktails, including some for gin lovers. The drinks are interesting and the bar itself is very relaxed. Just ring the bell!
You can’t get more central than Snow Hill, which is where you can find this ‘after work’ bar. There’s a small outside area to drink your gin and tonics in the afternoon sunshine and it’s popular with the suit crowd.
Jekyll & Hyde
Upstairs in this bar you’ll find Dr Jekyll’s Gin Parlour – a Victorian inspired private room you can hire for cocktail making classes and parties. More specifically, on Fridays and Saturdays, you can book table service from 8pm to sip the extensive array of gins available.
The Gin Vault
I’m ending with a hidden away canal-side bar that I actually have a bit of a strange relationship with. The few times I’ve visited I’ve enjoyed the drinks (the gin selection is excellent) but not the atmosphere or the bar’s set up. My tip would be to grab a drink and sit outside by the water, if you can grab one of the few tables.
World Gin Day is Saturday 8th June 2019.
