One of the most popular questions I’m asked is where to go for brunch in Birmingham. Whether you’re just looking for a simple breakfast or you want a fancy fizz-fuelled bottomless brunch, there are plenty of options.
Here’s ten of the destinations for those of you looking for a quality brunch in and around Birmingham city centre.
One of my favourite venues for a breakfast or brunch – ideal if you want something away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The breakfast dishes are wonderful (particularly the brisket skillet) and they have *the* best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had in Birmingham.
Probably one of the prettiest spots for a bit of brunch, the New Street branch of Medicine also doubles up as an art gallery. It’s also full of beautiful plants and it feels a bit like eating in a nice garden centre. The brunch menu is really varied and while you can get all the usual egg-based things here the Buddha Bowl is my absolute favourite – full of veggie goodness and colour.
Perfect for the morning after the night before, Juju’s Café is all about homely hospitality and relaxing brunches. Expect potent Bloody Mary’s, a moreish porky hash and plenty of happy vibes. It’s family owned and run and sits right beside the canal, so you can walk it all off afterwards.
There are few Birmingham pubs as gorgeous as The Plough, especially in summer when you can enjoy brunch on their fancy terrace. The fry ups are legendary and the smoked salmon and poached eggs with avocado toast will keep you full for days.
You’ve heard of eggy bread but have you ever tried eggy crumpets? Yes, it’s a thing – and it’s delicious. As well as your standard brunch options (the brunch baps are banging) this place is fairly famous for its eggy crumpets, which you can make meaty, or veggie. Personally, I like bacon and halloumi on mine, because if you’re going to do brunch do it properly.
One of my favourite cafes outside of the city centre and never disappoints. Tamu is a small but perfectly formed neighbourhood staple and serves up eclectic brunches that are far more inspiring than eggs on toast. Try the sweetcorn fritters that come with avocado, halloumi, tomato salsa and tobacco maple drizzle. It’s their most popular dish for a reason.
Nestled within the IKON Gallery at Brindleyplace, York’s is a gem for all day brunch. It’s a bit more out of the box when it comes to brunching – with dishes such as Arabian buttered eggs and shakshuka – and there’s a lovely terrace out the front if you fancy enjoying your meal in the sunshine.
Home of the best bagels in Brum, this popular café also serves up all your egg-based dreams. For me though it’s the pastrami bagels that make the ideal brunch though, filled to bursting and including all homemade ingredients. The coffee is absolutely divine, too.
Whether you fancy eating inside or in either of the gardens, this swish pub offers breakfast and brunch every single day of the week. All your traditional favourites like eggs benedict and smashed avo on toast, as well as American pancakes dripping in maple syrup. Fancy making it a bit more fun? There’s a variety of tipples you can add including a Champagne mimosa – delicious!
The Button Factory – Jewellery Quarter
Did someone say bottomless? Get ready for a boozy Saturday on the sunny roof terrace and enjoy 2 hours of unlimited bubbles and 2 courses of your choice. Go for the brunch burger with smoked bacon, spiced sausage, melted cheese, a poached egg and hash browns – it wont make you thin but it will make you happy.
