Last weekend I’m pretty sure I had the best value lunch available in the city centre thanks to Pulperia at Brindleyplace.
The £30 set lunch menu includes three courses with half a bottle of wine and is undeniably ridiculously good value – and I want you to know about it before owner Aktar realises this himself.
Currently available at the weekend (hours may change – life in hospitality isn’t very predictable right now) this lunch represents great value, not just because it’s generous but also because the food is sublime. There’s plenty of choice (rare for a set menu) and both the attentive service and the classy venue make it all the more special.
If you’re a fan of burrata I’d go with my pick of the Ensalada – a whole cheese with heritage tomato, basil and chilli. Probably too generous in portion size – as if that’s actually a thing to complain about – the creamy and fresh flavour combination is divine. The Tartare (bavette, bone marrow, capers and parsley) is a stunning way to start a meal here too. “Faultless,” according to my lunch date.
Sirloin next, and a sizeable piece of meat it was too with a crisp piece of fat to enjoy. Seasoned fries are served with all cuts and there’s a selection of sides you can add for a few quid more if you’re so inclined. The main event here should be steak – let’s be honest – but there’s other options available if beef isn’t your bag. But have the beef, yeah?
Desserts include churros or chocolate fondant but having devoured a whole cheese and half a cow with a bottle of red wine, I wimped out and picked the sorbet selection. Have to say, the blood orange scoop was an ideal palate cleanser.
We left incredibly full and very happy – as set lunch menus go this is really rather special. Service is excellent, food is memorable and the restaurant itself is quite beautiful.
It’s worth noting there’s also a Sunday lunch set menu, as well as the usual a la carte offering featuring cuts of beef I personally haven’t seen anywhere else in the city. Can’t wait to go back again later this month for Ian’s birthday – lots to like about this restaurant.
