Restaurants and pubs in Birmingham for walk ins

Posted on April 24, 2021April 28, 2021 by Laura

By the end of this week – the second week of hospitality being reopen since lockdown – I think I must have been asked which restaurants and pubs in Brum are offering walk ins about 50 times.

Every time I check my messages there’s at least 3 people asking this, so in a bid to be useful I’ve pulled a small list together. This isn’t guaranteed to get you a table, but I understand the frustration (especially at the weekends) and the lack of spontaneity the current situation causes, so hopefully some of the options below might be useful in helping you have fun.

Most of these are local or indies – I’ve tried to include pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars. They’re not in any order but tbh I’m doing the hard work so the least you can do is skim read a list (hair toss). Be prepared to wait for a space, don’t forget to tip, and if you love an experience you have somewhere – shout about it. Help the city get back on its feet and spread a bit of positivity.

If you find this post helpful please share it with your family and friends so it helps a wider audience. You can find daily posts and Brummie finds on my Instagram page – follow me here.

A month of good food with great friends, parties and birthdays, meet ups, Swifties, gigs and shows, exhibitions, new client wins, celebrations, book launches and a whole lotta laughs. Even saw some sunshine, briefly. Grateful ♥️🥰
Another visit to @wearerudyspizza at @brindleyplac Another visit to @wearerudyspizza at @brindleyplace last week - such a fan of the new venue on Oozles Square. Also a fan of the amount of olives and anchovies I got on my Tarantina. All the salty joy. Have you been yet? 👀
If you’re pondering where to eat this weekend I If you’re pondering where to eat this weekend I have a suggestion for you that I guarantee will make your heart and belly happy. Step forward @gaijin_sushi_uk.

If you like your sushi this is without a doubt the best place to get your fix. What @michal_gaijin_kubiak can’t do with a piece of tuna (pic 3) and a blow torch.. honestly. Beautifully presented food, an interesting sake selection and a gorgeous space to enjoy a meal.

Booking is advised over the weekend as it gets quite busy and the venue itself is only dinky. Don’t forget you can use your @independentbirmingham app here for a cheeky discount or free drink.

Heads up: you can still get your hands on the deli Heads up: you can still get your hands on the delicious @koba_ko_bham ramen at @1000tradesjq for the next few weeks. It’s very very nice and you should go try some if you haven’t. Public service announcement: complete.
Hadn’t been to @stationkingsheath for ages but w Hadn’t been to @stationkingsheath for ages but while hungover to hell last weekend (and in desperate need of gravy and carbs ahead of @kingsheathartisan) I booked a table for Sunday lunch.

This is the trio roast with lamb, beef and chicken - for about £15 it’s a huge plate of food. There’s many fancier and ‘prettier’ roasts (that also cost a lot more) about but sometimes you just want a mum-style dinner that makes you want a nap. Wouldn’t bother with the extra cauliflower cheese again but we enjoyed the rest and left very full.

Special shout out to literally everyone working there, too. Honestly, they are some of the nicest, most welcoming FOH staff I’ve ever met. Won’t leave it so long before visiting again 🙂

ad/ Did you know every weekend @albertsschloss hos ad/ Did you know every weekend @albertsschloss hosts breakfast at the show bar? On Saturday and Sunday you can sip on brunch cocktails (here they’re called Liveners) like Bloody Marys while indulging in dishes such as salmon royale, Turkish eggs and the Haus cooked breakfast. There’s also loaded pancakes and pastries if you have more of a sweet tooth. The breakfast service runs until 12 - it’s a pretty laid back affair so best to choose this if you’re looking for something relaxed to kick start your weekend 👍🏼

This one goes out to the lunchtime focaccia sandwi This one goes out to the lunchtime focaccia sandwiches from @laghisedgbaston. Available as takeout or on delivery apps, there’s two to choose from: ham and cheese or mozzarella, tomato, rocket and pesto. I got both for about £9 (using my trusty @independentbirmingham app discount) and can safely say you don’t need two - they’re massive 🤣👌🏼

A few weeks ago I spent a lush few hours at @jukeb A few weeks ago I spent a lush few hours at @jukeboxersbar for their Taylor Swift themed bottomless brunch event. Over 2 and a bit hours I did a lot of cat-like singing to some proper bangers, got suitably tipsy and ate a lot of food.

(I also led a very ‘passionate’ dance off to You Belong With Me at the end, but that’s a story for another day…)

Tickets to these themed brunches are around £40 and include food from @hopeyourehungry_ (lots of choice such as mixed platters, breakfast bao, rice bowls etc), unlimited drinks including cocktails, beer and fizz plus all the entertainment.

The vibes are immaculate - Shannon and the gang make you feel super welcome and it’s a really fun way to spend a few hours on a weekend lunchtime. Check the website for the upcoming themes (I think there’s Disney and Adele coming next) and dates✌🏼

There is a nice mix of starters, mains and desserts across the two menus on the day, making it super accessible. The restaurant has also not long had a refurb and looks rather smart - ideal for impressing the mums.

Last week I enjoyed a relaxed evening with friends Last week I enjoyed a relaxed evening with friends at @ucbrestaurants. We ate delicious things and quaffed nice wine while putting the world to rights - a dreamy way to head into the weekend. If you haven’t given dining at UCB a go yet please, please do. The students do such an amazing job, and honestly that lamb is just divine. A new spring menu drops soon to reflect the change in season so keep an eye out to see what dishes are available. The lunch and dinner menus are different so you’ll have lots of options. Enjoy!

Here’s a few snaps from my first visit to @plate Here’s a few snaps from my first visit to @platesbypurnells earlier this week.

I’m going to pay a second soon to try more dishes before popping a review up on the blog, but first impressions were good.

We’ve all been whinging there’s no good tapas places in the city centre for ages and I’m sure this will be popular.

Swipe through to get an idea of what you can expect (there’s a venue pic at the end) and I’ll get something more cohesive up soon.

Happy Saturday ✌🏼

Big love for the new @tierratacos happy hour 🫶🏼

Between 5-6pm Monday to Thursday you can now get various dishes and drinks (inc the fab margaritas) for just £5. When I visited the ‘5 for £5’ offering included hush puppies, padron peppers and totopos with 3 salsas. Added some tacos because.. well, when in Tierra and all that.

Nice little after work deal to brighten up the week. Bookings welcome and walk ins are fine too. Lovely people, lovely food.

We had dinner here last week and despite a few menu items being unavailable this might have been one of my favourite visits yet. The woodland mushroom agnolotti is by far my favourite pasta dish I’ve had there so far and the anchovy oysters (from the specials menu) made my salty happy receptors tingle.
