Did you know on Thursday 26th August it’s National Burger Day in the UK?
If you’re like me and love any excuse to scoff a burger, you’ll enjoy today’s post on where to grab a great one this week. They’re not in any order but it probably includes all your favourites. Onwards!
The Meat Shack
I’ve honestly never had a burger from The Meat Shack and not enjoyed it. One of the OG burger dons, there’s a good selection of beef burgers including the Buffalo Blue (my favourite) as well as the RnB and the Hellshack. The sides are also worth shoving your face in, and look out for the rotating specials.
Bonehead
One for the chicken lovers, Bonehead’s fried chicken burgers are pretty famous now. The Buffalo Soldier is the must-try, and if you want to be a legend try doubling up. It’ll fall over and you’ll end up with sauce down your top but whatever.
Stackz Burgers
Not to be confused with Stacks (which is shit) Stackz with a Z is found next to Legoland/Area and is a solid shout on Deliveroo too. The PBO – a beef patty generously topped with slow cooked pork belly and cheese – is a smashing burger, but you can also order it as loaded fries, too. Yay carbs.
OPM
It’s impossible you don’t know the name Original Patty Men. Available both in Digbeth and Strichley now, you can get beef and chicken burgers with ace toppings. The Pineapple Express with maple bacon and a tangy pineapple hot sauce and roquito chillies is my favourite.
Flying Cows
If you find Flying Cows at a local food festival make sure you try one of their burgers. Dan and the gang don’t have a restaurant but if you see them anywhere this weekend you will not regret ordering from them – even a basic cheese burg will make your life better. Seriously good burgers.
Indian Streatery
How does a spiced lamb patty covered in chilli cheese, pakora bites and minty yoghurt sound to you? Well it’s a reality at the super-ace Indian Streatery. Really tasty and nothing else like it in the city – if you want a burger with a twist, this one should be on your list.
Jujus Cafe
You might not expect this cafe famous for brunch to be a burger destination but hear me out. Their chicken kiev offering is absolute filth. A fried chicken breast full of garlic butter pops as you bite into it and leave you stinking – don’t eat this on a date.
Hot Chix
The Victoria pub is now home to Hot Chix, that most notably bash out blinding chicken burgers. If you like yours super crispy with lots of sauces, you’ll love this one. You can enjoy them in the pub or grab them for takeaway.
Meat Meets Bun
Found within Zumhoff (over in Digbeth) the burgers from Meat Meets Bun are really rather good. The Black and Blue – Stilton and American cheese with black pudding – is right nice with a pint. This is the brainchild of Fat Foodie who launched MMB this year.
Stripclub Street Food
If you’re around the Solihull neck of the woods, pop into Taste Collective and grab yourself something naughty from these sexy bastards. For those that like a bit of sweet and savoury combined, their famous Lotus burger will sort you right out. Look for the pink signage and go hungry.
Plant & Pulse
What if I told you there was a burger kicking about that’s not only veggie it’s also vegan AND it’s one of the tastiest things I’ve had in years? Step forward the spicy pakora burger from Plant & Pulse. Ask for extra mustard chillies and thank me later.
Patty Dabblers
They’ll be doing a pop up at Cask and Craft on Thursday so if you love a Patty Dabblers make sure you bag a burger there. They’re packed with tasty toppings and as well as beef they do some really lovely veggie options. Try the aubergine special and tell me I’m wrong.
Note: Hockley Social is running a one-off burgers only night on Thursday, inc the likes of Low n Slow, Kodawari and more.
