A festive jaunt around Birmingham Botanical Gardens

I’m a proud member of the #BrumBloggers clan and loved the little pre-Christmas meet up we had last week. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston was the setting for a lovely festive spectacle, with plenty of mulled wine and sausages (waheyy) to keep us warm.

I met up with George and Fay, plus the lovely Vicky and Chloe, and we mooched about the beautiful gardens lit up by some serous impressive lights. The vast blanket of lights (flickering rhythmically to music no less) is something well worth buying a ticket to see. Tip: make sure you stand near a speaker at the end of the trail to get the full effect.

Tunnels of twinkling fairy lights, lanterns and disco balls hidden in trees, and winding paths housing all of Santa’s reindeers made for a beautiful night time walk, and Fay (aged 34) was most delighted to discover the big man was actually there.

Slightly skinnier than I remember from my youth (I suspect St Nick has been on a pre-xmas juice cleanse) but full of jolly chat, the toddlers around us were just delighted by the little performance. This is found half way around the walk and is a nice touch, even for my cold frosty heart.

Of course I sampled some of the food that was available (you’re welcome) and visitors can find mulled wine, festive sweet treats like mince pies and reindeer cookies and hot dogs of various kinds; I tried a lamb dog with salad and hummus. There’s also chilli dogs and veggie alternatives.

If you’re heading to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens – and you’re over 18 slash need a tipple to warm your cockles – I suggest grabbing a few of the boozy bottles you’ll find in the hut next to the carrousel. I really enjoyed the Cold Rum Toddy and Hibiscus Rum Sour.

If you fancy a bit of festive joy get yourself down to Birmingham Botanical Gardens and enjoy the winter magic. It’s running throughout December and is easily accessible by bus or car. Or carrousel horse of you ask nicely..

Thanks to Ting and Laura from Brum Bloggers for organising a fun little outing for our community – and here’s to Christmas!
