If you like cocktails, sexy soft furnishings and all day dining with a Spanish twist you’re probably going to love The Pineapple Club at Great Western Arcade.
From the same people that brought you The Vanguard in Jewellery Quarter, this new opening has been a labour of love for owner Sam – and a long time coming. Unsurprisingly Covid created various setbacks, however with the help of his small but perfectly formed team (you’ll probably recognise cocktail magician Luke from their previous attic bar) the venue opened mid September.
This place is undoubtably designed with Instagram in mind, with neon signs and angel wings to pose up a storm. A pretty bar and boutique (split over the two floors previously occupied by The Victorian Cafe) the decor is cute and the drinks list is creative. Cocktails range from £7-£10 (Vice By Night is great if you like a strong tequila vibe) but there’s also well priced wines from Wine Freedom, beers and mead.
The Pineapple Club is open daytime through to evening for breakfast and coffee, cocktails and nibbles, tapas style dishes and there’s even a bottomless brunch available. Food will be available from 26th September and comes from Santi’s Kitchen (Santi was formally the chef of now closed El Borracho de Oro in Edgbaston) and includes small plates and paella.
You’ll also find brunch dishes from across the globe and grazing boards of cheese and charcuterie – ideal for sharing with friends and a glass of wine (or 4) after work. There’s lots of choice and plenty of thought has gone into catering for the masses, including various veggie and vegan options.
This bar joins other popular venues in Great Western Arcade, including vegetarian restaurant Land, non profit pub The Good Intent, and wine bar Loki. It’s also home to the fabulous Morridge and everyone’s favourite sexy sandwich provider Anderson & Hill.
Congratulations to Sam, Luke and the team – great people doing great things for the independent scene in Brum. Have no doubt this place will do well, especially at the weekends. Open Mon-Sat.

Disclosure: I was invited to a preview evening ahead of the opening but paid for my drinks in full during the event.
